Everton are on the hunt for a new manager after the sacking of Marco Silva and one name which has increasingly looked like the favourite for the job is Vitor Pereira.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Silva’s Portuguese compatriot is now the favourite of the Everton board for the job.
The Shanghai SIPG boss was interviewed by Everton back in 2013 but his grasp of the English language failed him. He is now said to be fluent and Everton are considering giving him another chance.
His record is impressive. Titles in Greece and Portugal (sound familiar) and success in China.
But that was with clubs already built to be on top. Porto, Olympiakos, Shanghai.

Everton, at present, are in a scrap and are in no place for a rebuild. When it comes to having a fight for survival, Pereira’s brief foray into German football should act as a huge warning sign.
MORE EVERTON STORIES
Pereira took over at fallen giants 1860 Munich in the German second-tier back in December 2016. Like Everton, they were in what was considered a shock relegation battle. Pereira could not turn things around. 1860 were eventually relegated to the third-tier by losing a play-off with Jahn Regensburg.
Now there were plenty of external factors that impacted 1860 that season. The club was in turmoil behind the scenes.
However, on the pitch, they were simply not up for the fight under the guidance of Pereira. His record at top clubs in their respective leagues in impressive. But when it comes to a fight, in Germany he failed to meet the grade.
That must have Everton second-guessing their willingness to give him the Goodison hot seat.
