Everton’s struggles in front of goal have been well documented for a while now, but Sean Dyche is hopeful this can change as he believes that striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin could return to his best form soon.

The Englishman’s form has been hampered by injury for the last few seasons, but at his best he was a striker who could produce in front of goal and hold the ball up very well.

The 26-year-old scored in the defeat to Luton Town, and also hit the crossbar as he threatened the box, and Dyche has now praised his improvement.

Dyche praises Calvert-Lewin

Speaking in a press conference today, Dyche hinted that the attacker is showing signs which could suggest that he is ready to start consistently performing again after a few difficult years.

“He is getting there, to total fitness. The best I had seen him was down at Brighton last year – and he’s shown signs of that recently,” Dyche stated.

Calvert-Lewin has struggled with injury a lot, but with three goals in five appearances this season, he is showing signs of life, after scoring just seven times in the last two seasons combined.

Game changer?

If Calvert-Lewin can hit his best form again, he could be a game-changing player in the relegation battle.

Everton’s struggles in front of goal have been one of the biggest issues in the side this season, and a lack of a goalscorer could doom Dyche’s side to the drop if they are unable to pick up crucial points.

With a fully fit and firing Calvert-Lewin, it almost looks like a different team with a focal point upfront, and fitness will be the key for him.

Dyche may be positive now, but it remains to be seen how consistent the forward can perform for, and if he picks up another injury or has a drop in form again, it will be to the frustration of everyone.
