Everton’s number one Jordan Pickford was in action for England last night.
England played their final group stage game of the 2026 World Cup on Saturday night, and they beat Panama 2-0.

Everton shot-stopper Jordan Pickford collected his 87th cap for his country and kept his 47th clean sheet.
That said, here is what the global media had to say about Pickford’s performance.

Jordan Pickford ‘coasted’ in England vs Panama
Pickford now has two clean sheets at the World Cup, so he’ll already be thinking about that Golden Glove trophy.
The global media actually had mixed opinions about the 32-year-old’s performance, as one outlet questioned his distribution and another labelled him as ‘shaky’.
TNT Sports were impressed, though.
7/10 – “Busier than he would have liked to be and did well to deny Rodriguez in the first half. Sign of a good goalkeeper to stay alert.”
ESPN added.
7/10 – “Panama managed just two shots on goal with a xG of 0.59. One of those games where the England No. 1 coasted through.”
The Mirror stated.
6/10 – “Some shaky moments in possession but was largely untroubled.”
6/10 – “Decent save to deny Rodriguez midway through the first half. Distribution was a little off at times, but swept up well enough.”
What would you be doing with Nathan Patterson this summer if you were Angus Kinnear? 👋
Surely the writing is on the wall now?
Pickford’s stats vs Panama
According to Sofascore, Pickford’s performance warranted a 7.1 match rating, which is a very respectable score.
As evidenced by his statistics, his long passes could’ve been a bit more accurate if we’re nitpicking a little bit, but that would be very harsh.
His close-range distribution was near perfect, as he had a 95% pass completion rate in his own half.
- 90 minutes
- 2 saves
- 1 save inside the box
- 1 punch
- 20/21 pass completed in own half
- 3/10 long balls completed
- 7 possession lost
- 7 recoveries
The Toffees goalkeeper can be a bit wayward with his long-distance kicking, and it’s an area of his game that has frustrated David Moyes previously.
Speaking back in November, Moyes stated: “He drives me mad at times with some of his kicking and we are waving our arms at each other (but he is a top goalkeeper).”
But, all things considered, it was a really solid performance from Pickford, so there’s really no need to question his display.
