Turning their attention to the League Cup this evening, DCL could once again be in contention to play as the England international continues his rehabilitation to full strength.

Speaking about the 26-year-old with the official Everton website, Sean Dyche said: “Ever since I have been in the Club there has been a constant story about Dom. It weighs heavily. We have managed to get him fit, and build him back into fitness. We know he is a very good player.

He came on nice and sharp on Saturday, we know he is still reinforcing his body and mentality to be totally Premier League fit, but it was another good sign on Saturday. He was sharp and I was pleased for him.”

DCL return to full fitness is exciting prospect for Everton fans

DCL has and an injury-laden couple of years and was forced off during Everton’s second game of the season following a collision with Aston Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez.

Indeed, the striker featured during the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal wearing a protective face mask exemplifying the severity of his injury.

However, the ‘very good player’ managed to get off the mark for the season last weekend and Everton fans will be hopeful that the 26-year-old can build on his performance.

With a trip to Aston Villa for this evening’s League Cup tie, it could be an opportunity for Calvert-Lewin to get more minutes on the pitch ahead of another crucial Premier League game this weekend.
