Everton have had eyes on Hayden Hackney, and last night the midfielder produced a display that set several new records.

Everton have recently been linked with Hackney again and could well push to sign him from Middlesbrough this summer.

Should Everton be making a summer move for Hayden Hackney at a reported £30m?

Perhaps he'd be a good long-term successor to Idrissa Gana Gueye… 🤔

It’s thought Hackney will cost at least £30 million, although if Boro gain promotion he would surely cost even more money.

He’s been having a fine season, and at the weekend he showed his quality once again, this time against Oxford United.

Saturday was not such a good day for Boro as a collective.

After losing their game against Coventry City in a top-of-the-table clash, it was important for them to respond against Oxford.

But they were held to a 0-0 draw, with leaders Coventry opening up a three-point gap.

However, Hackney stood out with a fine display in midfield which, as per WhoScored, broke numerous records set this season.

Everton target Hackney is proving why he’s so coveted

These statistics are certainly impressive.

But he has also been good in his defensive work this season, with his numbers suggesting Hackney as a potentially ideal long-term successor to Idrissa Gana Gueye.

The midfielder will not be easy to sign this summer, if Everton do indeed intend to push for him.

Lots of other clubs have been linked, but Hackney has also described playing for Boro as a dream, suggesting that he’d be more than open to staying put.

One would imagine that if Boro gain promotion, the chances of that happening will significantly increase.
