Nedum Onuoha has predicted Ashley Young to bounce back from his mistake against Aston Villa.
Speaking on BBC’s Football Daily podcast, the former defender has backed Everton to ‘do better’ and claims Young won’t make the same mistake again after a poor display at the weekend.
Everton travelled to Villa Park for their first away trip of the 2023/24 campaign after narrowly staying up last time out.

The Toffees offered fans plenty of positives despite their opening day defeat to Fulham, however things were far from promising as they shipped in four goals against Unai Emery’s side.
While Everton’s attack posed no threat at all, their defence was full of individual problems that led to three of their four goals. Jhon Duran’s first goal for Villa came from a terrible throw-in from Young that led to Michael Keane gifting the ball to the 19-year-old striker.
The former Villa defender came under a lot of criticism for his performance, however Onuoha was adamant that it was very out of character for the veteran.

Ashley Young ‘probably won’t do it again’ for Everton
“They’ll have to look back at that and they’ll know that they can do better,” Onuoha said.
“This isn’t a representation of how good they actually are, this is them in a bad moment.

“Ashley Young has been playing since TVs were black and white and he hasn’t made many mistakes like he did with that throw in and he probably won’t do it again. You just learn from those sort of mistakes and it’s just fair to assume they didn’t intend to be like that and I think they’ll look to address it in the next game.
“Overall, defensively I think Everton are going to be ok. If this is them for the rest of the season then we don’t even need to talk about them, we can just get them ready for the Championship. But I don’t think this is them, they’ve got good players.”
