Everton could miss out on Johan Bakayoko to Liverpool.

That’s according to Voetbal journalist Marco Timmer, who had claimed that the Reds have approached PSV Eindhoven over a mover for the forward.

Bakayoko bagged 27 goal contributions in only 32 games for Jong PSV during the 2021-22 campaign before he was handed his opportunity in the senior team last season.

The 20-year-old scored five goals and provided five assists in the Eredivisie and has continued his fine form into the new term, picking up two assists in only two Champions League matches.

It was reported yesterday that the Toffees had opened talks with PSV over a permanent deal for Bakayoko, while the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Napoli and AC Milan also held interest.

Timmer has reported that PSV will expect ‘big bids’ for the youngster this summer, while Everton will now face even tougher competition after Liverpool joined the chase. Jurgen Klopp’s side see Bakayoko as an option if Mohamed Salah leaves.

Rudy Galetti reported earlier this week that the Egyptian has been contacted by Saudi side Al-Ittihad, however Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, ruled out the possibility of a move to the Middle East earlier this month.

Liverpool seem unlikely to make a concrete move for Johan Bakayoko

While Liverpool have reportedly approached PSV over the signing of Johan Bakayoko, it seems incredibly unlikely that their interest is anything to be concerned about.

Rumours of Mo Salah’s departure seems to have fuelled from his tantrum when he was subbed off against Chelsea and the Reds already have the likes of Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and even Ben Doak in their attack.

Everton would be left very frustrated if they were to lose out on a target to their local rivals, however the challenge of snapping Bakayoko up started long before Liverpool threw their name into the hat.
