Everton have made a number of transfer blunders over the last decade.
The Toffees spent a fortune under Farhad Moshiri but the majority of his expensive recruits ended up failing.
Moise Kean, Davy Klassen and Yannick Bolasie are a few notable examples as they struggled to live up to their lofty price tags.
Though, not only have Everton made errors in terms of incomings, but also in allowing players to leave the club.
Antonee Robinson was allowed to depart as a youngster and now he’s one of the best left-backs in the Premier League.
And, it also looks like they’ve made an error with another sale, as he’s since become one of the top playmakers in Europe, based on statistics.

Alex Iwobi is statistically one of Europe’s best playmakers
When Everton paid £35m for Alex Iwobi in 2019, many were unconvinced by the signing and were proved correct for much of his career on Merseyside.
Iwobi really struggled to live up to his lofty price tag as he netted just nine goal whilst laying on 15 assists across 140 appearances.
He was considered a ‘flop’ signing when he left for Fulham in 2023, but since then, the Nigeria international has been a key figure in a top 10 side and over the last 18 months, he’s become one of the best playmakers in Europe.
According to WhoScored, Iwobi created the third most chances from open play in Europe’s top five leagues in 2024.
Iwobi has added goals to his game this season
Iwobi has really stepped up a level this season and he’s now starting to add goals to his game, netting seven times in the Premier League.
The 28-year-old has been able to improve his output in front of goal without losing his tenacity and energy in midfield.
Perhaps Everton are looking back on the decision to sell Iwobi with some regret, though, it did help their worrisome financial situation.
