‘Horrific to watch’, ‘What a waste’: Everton fans slam player for what he did against West Ham

Everton have had a tough first half away at West Ham with both sides battling well, but they should have taken the lead.

Jack Harrison found himself running towards goal in a 3v1 situation, with Abdoulaye Doucoure and Dominic Calvert-Lewin alongside him, and had the option to slide Doucoure through on goal.

He chose to cut inside in the box and shoot instead, but fired a weak shot straight at goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, much to the anger of both his teammates and the travelling Everton supporters.

Everton fans have now taken to Twitter to express their frustration at the winger, who joined on loan from Leeds United in the summer.

Some believe that Harrison made the wrong choice in shooting, and should have passed to Doucoure instead.

“Harrison should have passed it earlier when he shot,” one fan tweeted.

“Poor decision from Harrison there,” another claimed.

“Selfish play from Harrison Doucoure was open,” a viewer stated.

“What a waste! Harrison picks it up and should slip to DCL or punish them. We’ve done so little and that’s a huge let off.”

“All Harrison had to do was pass to Calvert-Lewin and Everton would’ve had a lead.”

“Terrible decision making from Harrison there,” a fan added.

Some fans believe that whilst Harrison may have made the right decision in choosing to shoot, his execution was nowhere near the required quality.

“Poor effort by Harrison – wasted a great chance,” one stated.

“Absolute waste of a gilt-edged opportunity from Harrison.”

One fan even claimed that the whole right-hand side of Harrison and full-back Nathan Patterson was disappointing overall.

“That Patterson Harrison right hand side has been horrific to watch, when is Coleman back,” one fan lamented.

Everton’s struggles in front of goal are well documented, and one fan has now pointed out how crucial Harrison’s miss could be.

“Given we struggle so badly to create chances, we have to make more of opportunities that present themselves like Harrison had there,” he tweeted.

Although Everton went into the break at 0-0, and would perhaps have been the happier of the two sides, it could have been an even better half for them at the London Stadium, and they will hope the missed chance does not come back to bite them.
