Everton’s takeover remains hanging in the balance but there has now been an update which won’t strike confidence over the 777 takeover.

Just as it was hoped that Everton were on the other side of their financial troubles, they now find themselves in a position as perilous as ever.

The Premier League on Monday charged Everton for a second time due to their Profit and Sustainability performance.

Now to add further insult to injury, there’s been a disappointing update on the prospective 777 Partners ownership takeover.

777 Partners are now ‘pessimistic’ over takeover chances

For the latest development, journalist Paul Brown spoke with GiveMeSport in which he had some bad news for fans regarding the takeover.

“So we’ve heard from insiders at the company that as a group, they’re now pessimistic about their chances of being granted approval,” Brown explained.

“In public, they sound a very different tone, but there are people inside the company who don’t think this is going to happen now. One way or another 777 can’t keep pumping loan money into the club indefinitely.

“It’s becoming quite a big drag on their finances, which at the moment are stretched, and they need an answer one way or another, which is why I think you’re seeing a few stories coming out the last few weeks.”

Adding to this, Brown explained that 777 Partners aren’t acting in a way befitting a group confident of a successful takeover.

“A lot of the briefings given to journalists by 777 are not the kind of thing that you would associate with a group that have huge confidence that they are going to get this done, because if they were confident it was going to happen, they wouldn’t be saying anything at all.

“They’d be keeping their mouth shut because they don’t need to say anything. You only need to say something if you don’t think it’s going to happen.”

Not looking good for Everton right now

With the takeover in jeopardy according to Brown, the Toffees could be back to square one on this matter. Given how close the 777 takeover is/was it’d be a massive blow to see it scrapped.

It would also leave Everton stuck in limbo for another period of time, although it’d be hoped there’s a line of other interested parties to come in at Goodison Park.

777 could still complete the takeover it’s worth noting, but the signs aren’t looking good in regards to this – no doubt that the club once again being charged for PSR won’t help convince those in power to make the deal happen.
