David Moyes is searching for a new striker ahead of January and Ivan Toney has been suggested as a name that could be of interest to Everton.

Strikers failing to nail down any consistent form in front of goal has been an ongoing issue for Everton over recent years.

Last season, Beto hit a run of form following the appointment of Moyes, but that has proven to be nothing more than a purple patch.

It has now even reached a point where Moyes is actively disappointed in Beto’s performances, with just one goal in the Premier League this term.

As a result, Everton News understands that Moyes wants Everton to land a new striker in January to provide the likes of Jack Grealish with someone to target.

A number of names will be suggested as possible options, but Moyes’ stance on landing Al-Ahli’s Toney may already have been shared.

David Moyes’ stance on signing Ivan Toney for Everton

Everton News have been told that Richarlison would be keen to return to Everton next year, but a move in January is unlikely.

As things stand, the Toffees need an answer for the January window, and Toney is a name that has been raised as an option.

Speaking on the Royal Blue podcast, Chris Beesley has provided some insight on Moyes’ thoughts on the current Al-Ahli striker.

“They had the quotes from the original piece were saying that the people from within the Toney camp were favouring the move to Everton, ahead of West Ham United, and that he was keen that he thought a move back to the Premier League and could get him in Thomas Tuchel’s plans for the World Cup because I don’t think he’s featured since the Senegal friendly last summer,” said the Everton reporter.

“But as far as I understand, well, it was my understanding, he was somebody when David Moyes first came into the club, my understanding was, that he was on the manager’s radar then, but I think there are numerous hurdles over this one.”

“I think we’ve talked about the money with Jack Grealish, but in terms of I think with Saudi Arabia and the tax issue there with him coming back, that could be a major stumbling block, so maybe take it with a pinch of salt.”

Thierno Barry has failed to hit the ground running after he was brought in over the summer as Everton’s big-money striker signing.

Moyes was open to signing two strikers for Everton but there were a lot of needs that also needed ticking off for the Blues.

What level of striker that will be available in January is going to be interesting.

What David Moyes has previously said about Ivan Toney

During his days at Brentford, Moyes made no mistake of singing the praises of Toney.

“He’s got an awful lot of good things as a footballer. Obviously there’s a coolness about in his finishing and how he plays, and he’s got a physical element to him,” Moyes told the media last year.

“But also, importantly, he’s got a really intelligent football brain at times.”

Tony Grant wants Everton to land a striker with Premier League experience after seeing what Danny Welbeck did at the weekend for Brighton & Hove Albion.

Toney has bags of experience and even during his time in Saudi Arabia, the 29-year-old has been able to maintain a strong record in front of goal.

But, as Beesley suggests, this is a possible deal that would involve a lot of financial hurdles.
