Everton’s finances have come under intense scrutiny for nearly a decade now, and deservedly so.
After all, they are in a truly dire position, and have been ever since Farhad Moshiri began to drag the club down his aimless path.
However, with the Bramley-Moore Dock providing a much-needed light at the end of the tunnel, and a new deal having just been announced with food provider Aramark UK, it has been described as ‘one of the biggest commercial deals in the Club’s history’.
Finance expert reacts to record-breaking Bramley-Moore Dock deal
Speaking exclusively to football finance expert Adam Williams, he told Everton.News exactly what the benefits of this new deal will be, and why some of the phrasing involved might come across as slightly disingenuous.
He noted, with a lengthy but hugely informative insight: ‘It’s interesting to see Everton go with this tiered approach to sponsorship with the Founding Partners model.

‘Castore became the first member of that club earlier this summer. The headline figures for that deal suggested it was very lucrative indeed.
‘You expect your kit supplier to be one of the two biggest commercial deals you have as a club, but £20m per season was far higher than Everton can usually expect.
‘You therefore have to presume that Castore are paying a premium for Founding Partner status on top of that.’
However, Williams did question the use of a record-breaking deal, continuing: ’Incidentally, I think the headline figures are likely a little misleading for that deal. It will very much be incentive-based, and they won’t be getting £20m upfront.
‘But either way, it looks like a significant upswing on the previous deal with Hummel. That bodes well for the new Founding Partner deal with Aramark.

‘The company are big financial players. They have just agreed a deal with Barcelona to take over nearly £100m worth of debt, for example.
‘However, I would suggest that the language ‘the biggest deal commercial deals in the Club’s history’ probably refers to the scope of the deal and the value of future earnings as opposed to the upfront fee.
‘From watching the promotional videos, it’s clear that Amarak and Everton are following the American commercial model, with emphasis on fan experience and getting supporters to spend more time – and money – in the stadium beyond 90 minutes.
‘That is going to make it a lot more attractive venue for sponsors, as well as more appealing for promoters looking to stage non-football events in Liverpool.
‘I think Everton are likely to more than double their matchday income from ticketing alone over time, but the commercial benefits will far surpass that linear uplift.
‘It’s hard to quantify directly, but I’d suggest that Bramley Moore Dock will be worth £70m, perhaps £80m to Everton per season all told.’

Finally, the finance expert sought to emphasise one point regarding fan welfare, finishing by claiming: ’One thing I would stress, however, is that the Everton Supporters Trust and the Fan Advisory Board need to hold the club to account in terms of ticket prices.
‘We’ve seen it at West Ham where promises were made about ticket prices as a condition of the move to the London Stadium, but the club has incrementally increased them and changed their policies around concession to the point where it is pricing out bedrock fans.
‘Spurs have implemented a similar concessions policy at their new stadium, so Everton fans have a role to play in keeping their commercial department honest.’
Everton’s Bramley-Moore Dock could save the club
It seems that, with this deal the latest benefit that Everton’s Bramley-Moore Dock stadium has brought, this is only the beginning of the huge cash influx that is due.
With commercial deals still to come, and the stadium naming rights deal certainly set to be by far the most lucrative, things are looking up.

And, when the move-in is confirmed after the coming Premier League season, the match-day income, as Williams predicts, should skyrocket.
Things may be dire at the moment, with their takeover still hanging in the balance, but the future is almost certainly bright.
