Football pundit Paul Merson has now predicted the outcome of Saturday’s game as Everton travel to Brentford.

The Toffees have had a dreadful start to the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, picking up just one point out of the opening five fixtures.

The hosts meanwhile are in eleventh place on six points, with three draws, one defeat and one win so far, and Merson has stated he ‘expects’ Thomas Frank’s side to pick up another three points against Everton.

Writing in his weekly Sportskeeda column, Merson predicts a 2-0 win for Brentford, stating: “Brentford were very unlucky last week but I expect them to bounce back with a comfortable win against Everton.

The Toffees, on the other hand, are really struggling at the moment – it’s not looking good for them. A 1-0 loss to Arsenal isn’t really the end of the world for them, but defeats against Fulham and Wolves will come back to haunt them later in the season.

They’re well behind the eight-ball and must pull up their socks in the coming weeks to climb up the table.”

Everton must bring the fight to Brentford and start showing improvements

Everton’s displays against Fulham and Wolves offered promise as despite ending in defeat, the performances from Sean Dyche’s side deserved more, though wasteful finishing proved costly.

Last week’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal however was an embarrassingly poor showing from the Blues, with the Gunners barely troubled over the course of the game.

Everton need to start picking up points and while Brentford is not an easy place to visit, if opportunities can be created for £26m forward Beto or the fit-again Dominic Calvert-Lewin, they have a chance of returning to Merseyside with something.

With the joint-second lowest points tally after five games in the club’s illustrious history, Sean Dyche needs to turn things around fast.
