Peter Crouch has claimed it will be a very ‘tough ask’ for Everton to avoid defeat to Liverpool this weekend.

Speaking on TNT Sport, as per Liverpool Echo, the former striker said he ‘can’t see’ anything over than a win for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Everton have only won once at Anfield since 1999 and are huge underdogs heading into this weekend’s clash, despite winning three of their last four matches in the Premier League.

While they did suffer an unexpected defeat to Luton Town, the Toffees overcame Aston Villa and Brentford, before thrashing Bournemouth 3-0 prior to the international break.

Meanwhile, the Reds are searching for their first league win in a month after failing to beat Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton.

While they will be without a number of key players including Andy Robertson and Curtis Jones, Liverpool will be very confident they can continue their brilliant record in the Merseyside derby.

While Everton will head to Anfield with arguably the most hope they have had in a while, Peter Crouch has admitted he can’t see Sean Dyche‘s side coming up with any surprises.

“Such a good game, I’ve had the privilege to be able to play in those games and the atmosphere was electric,” Crouch told TNT Sport.

“With it being at Anfield, I think it’s going to be a tough ask for Everton and I imagine Liverpool will come out on top. The gap is very big, even the most staunch Everton fan would admit that. “I can’t see anything other than a Liverpool win.

“It’s a big one, I played in some big games, Aston Villa (vs) Birmingham was always a big one, the North London derby, Portsmouth (vs) Southampton, there’s been a few derbies over the years but the Merseyside derby is one of the biggest.”

Can Everton do it again? Not according to Peter Crouch

Everton’s 2-0 win over Liverpool in February 2021 was a huge upset, with many Toffees fans probably not even remembering the last away victory led by Kevin Campbell‘s early goal.

Everton still had the likes of Richarlison, James Rodriguez and Lucas Digne in their team when they claimed the surprise three points last time, so it would take some doing for this group of players to replicate their success.

However, the current form of James Garner and Abdoulaye Doucoure could definitely provide some competition in the midfield. Though Dominic Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister aren’t exactly bad either…
