‘I understand…’: £25m flop drops honest admission after disappointing Everton spell

There was a lot of hype when striking sensation Moise Kean joined Everton, but his spell on Merseyside was nothing short of a complete disappointment.

The Italy International scored four times in 39 games as he struggled to settle at Goodison Park, and he departed on loan to Paris Saint-Germain one season after his big-money move.

Everton took some solace in the fact that they were able to recoup £25m for him a few years later as Juventus decided to bring him back to Turin, and he has since become a key player for the Italian giants.

Kean has now admitted that earlier decisions in his career, likely referring to his Everton disaster, saw him make a lot of mistakes, and the 23-year-old has now claimed that he has learned from his errors to improve.

Kean admits he made mistakes

In quotes via TuttoMercatoWeb, Kean admitted that he made mistakes in his younger years which prevented him from succeeding earlier on.

“When you’re young, you make mistakes. I understand the mistakes, now it’s up to me to show on and off that you can count on me anyway, and that when the coach calls me I always make myself ready,” Kean stated.

When Everton signed him, he was a teenager who had enjoyed a sensational breakthrough with the Italian giants. Whilst he is still perhaps not at the level initially expected of him, he is having a better time now than he did during a difficult year at Goodison Park.

Everton’s transfer failures

Kean is one of many players that failed at Everton in recent years. Despite recording some heavy spending in recent seasons, Everton’s transfer decisions have held them back in the market, with players unsuited to different managers and styles arriving and failing.

Kean is an example of how difficult it is to thrive in such an unstable environment. His initial breakthrough, as well as his successful loan to PSG, showed that he is a talented young player, but his failure to make an impact within one season at an underperforming Everton side meant his chances of success on Merseyside were slim.

Whilst Everton may not look back on his sale with too much regret yet, if Kean becomes a major success at Juventus, it will merely highlight the difficulties facing the Toffees right now, that even talented players who succeed elsewhere struggle when at the club.
