Ian Wright thinks Everton have a 27-year-old player who has ‘everything’

Everton were far from impressive yesterday, but in the end, a win is a win.

That is frankly all they needed when hosting Burnley in a huge relegation six-pointer, and were it not for Luton Town’s late winner the Premier League table would look wholly favourable right now.

Regardless, it remains the Toffees in the position of most strength, with that result even seeing them leapfrog Brentford in the table and come within just one point of Crystal Palace too.

However, arguably more important than the win itself, is the continued reemergence of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The forward, who has endured a torrid term for Everton, notched his second goal in just five days, and has rightly earned praise for his display.

Ian Wright raves over Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Speaking on last night’s Match of the Day, the analysis was brief after the highlights package, but did focus on Everton’s main man who once again found the back of the net.

Having ended his barren scoreless run in midweek with a powerful penalty to salvage a point at Newcastle United, fortune once again shone down upon Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who found the net once again as the Burnley goalkeeper lashed the ball right at the striker.

And whilst it was hardly the most sparkling finish to cap off a far-from-vintage display, it merited a crucial three points in the relegation battle.

However, Ian Wright felt like the 27-year-old’s all-around performance was deserving of praise anyway, as he first noted: ‘You’re just hoping for his sake that he can get that run of real good fitness because he’s somebody that, when he’s playing he gives you everything as a striker, link play.

‘That was close. What you look at Muric, at the goal, it’s as if he can’t see Calvert-Lewin coming, it’s as if he’s got Harry Potter’s invisible coat on or something.’

He later added: ’He’s in good form.’

Dominic Calvert-Lewin could have a strong finish to the season

This has been one of the most unpredictable, crazy seasons for Everton.

Having already faced one points deduction, and staring down the barrel of a second, Sean Dyche has also had to contend with an unrelenting takeover saga as well as wildly fluctuating on-pitch performances.

And yet, were it not for their six-point penalty, they would currently sit 14th, having amassed 35 points with seven games left to play.

They have not played poorly despite enduring their worst winless run in Premier League history, and neither has Calvert-Lewin despite his poor form either.

Hilariously so, with two goals in one week, it actually now has the English marksman on five league goals for the season in what has been a long, arduous campaign for him.

This return to form, and more importantly the re-emergence of some much-needed fortune, placed alongside a favourable run-in consisting of games against Sheffield United, Luton Town, Brentford and Nottingham Forest, showcases a light at the end of the tunnel for both player and club.

Should he maintain this mini resurgence, there is every chance that Calvert-Lewin could even finish the season having notched double figures, against all the odds.

In what has arguably been the toughest campaign of his career thus far performance-wise, he has every chance to still finish strongly, silence the doubters, and put survival beyond all reasonable doubt.
