The recent injury sustained by Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye does not look to be particularly serious.

Sean Dyche recently confirmed that Idrissa Gueye suffered an injury during the warm up prior to Everton v Bournemouth. As such, the midfielder was withdrawn from the starting XI and Amadou Onana came into the team in his place.

In the end, Everton did not suffer as a consequence of this enforced change. The Merseyside outfit cruised to 3-0 win against the toothless Cherries, securing their first Premier League win at Goodison Park of the season so far in the process.

However, Dyche will have been hoping that Gueye wasn’t seriously hurt and set for an extended period on the sidelines.

There is good news for the Everton boss in this regard. According to journalist Papa Mahmoud Gueye, the 34-year-old is still set to join Senegal on international duty.

The reporter said on Twitter, “Gueye, who was also injured during the warm-up on Saturday with Everton, will also be present. He just had some heel pain, but he will be operational.”

Beginning of the end for Gueye at Everton

Gueye remains an important player at Everton and will play a great deal for the club throughout the campaign. The £80,000-a-week veteran has started seven games in the Premier League so far this season. Dyche looks to the 104-cap Senegal international to bring experience and tenacity to the middle of the park.

Despite Gueye still being central to Dyche’s plans, Everton need to start preparing to move on from the £2 million former PSG man. He is no longer the player he was, and in Onana and James Garner, the Toffees have more exciting and energetic options who can flourish for them as part of a younger, more dynamic midfield unit.

Dyche ought to be planning to gradually phase Gueye out of the regular starting XI throughout the season. However, it is still important that the player is fit and available as an option, as Everton aren’t blessed with a large squad.
