Everton have done their first piece of business of the summer, with Carlos Alcaraz turning his move to the club permanent after a successful loan spell.
Everton officially announced that the Argentina international will be staying at the club, after triggering their option to buy the player.
It is thought the Toffees will now pay Flamengo around £15 million for the signing.
It was something many had wanted to see, after Carlos Alcaraz enjoyed some good performances in Everton colours in 2025.
The 22-year-old made 16 appearances for the Toffees in 2024/25, and clearly impressed enough to warrant the club to keep him.
The hope for everyone now, is that he kicks on and nails down a place in the starting XI. With Abdoulaye Doucoure having moved on, there is a good chance for him to do that, although Iliman Ndiaye could also be an option to play as a number 10.
Everton fans rejoiced yesterday over the news of Alcaraz staying – but some are actually confused by one aspect of the deal.

Everton fans puzzled why Carlos Alcaraz has only signed a two-year contract

Most Evertonians want to see Alcaraz turn his move to the club permanent. And last week, it was suggested Everton didn’t have long to sign Alcaraz to the initial terms agreed with Flamengo.
Undoubtedly, he had some very good moments while he was on loan, and was improving by the week.
Alcaraz had built a nice partnership with Beto especially, and David Moyes will hope to see him make more good connections on the pitch.
But some Everton fans are slightly disappointed that Alcaraz has only signed a two-year contract.
@RomseyCam said: “Good news but only a two year contract?”
@aide_dews said: “2 year deal? Is that a misprint?!”
@marco_willo5 added: “2 year deal seems weak to me wonder if it was the club or players choice.”
@bdh_04 said: “2 year deal says to me that the club aren’t 100% sure on him, but think it’s worth the risk at that price. If he does well next season we can then extend, if not then we aren’t chained to a flop for 5 years. Could be smart business.”
Alan Myers was also left shocked by Alcaraz’s two-year deal, and currently it’s not known if there is any kind of option.
Alcaraz signing permanently is a positive step by Everton
It is somewhat surprising that Alcaraz has only signed for two years.
But one would imagine Everton will keep a close eye on his progress and there will surely be scope for extending that deal.
But at least for now, Everton have concluded the deal to sign him permanently.
Carlos Alcaraz for Everton (2025-present)
Appearances – 16
Minutes played – 771
Goals – 2
Assists – 3
Alcaraz was a bright spark during his loan spell and it would have been an unpopular decision with supporters.
With two goals and three assists, the evidence is there that he can be a creator for Everton in the Premier League.
