It looks like £25m Roma signing has now caused Everton to miss out on a transfer target

Everton fans are surely looking over at Rome with envy.

The Friedkin Group are working hard to help Gian Piero Gasperini this winter while Everton remain without a signing – even flying to Rome to reassure the Italian that reinforcements will be brought to Roma this month.

Radu Dragusin and Giacomo Raspadori are expected to arrive in the Eternal City – as is Donyell Malen after a £25m deal was agreed with Aston Villa.

However, that £25m move now seems to have caused David Moyes to miss out on Tammy Abraham.

Aston Villa set to beat Everton to Tammy Abraham after sanctioning Donyell Malen sale

The Times claim that Everton were pursuing Abraham as the Toffees aim to find competition for Beto and Thierno Barry.

How impressed have you been with the Friedkin Group since joining in 2024?

However, the story states that Aston Villa are now close to signing the England international instead, after Unai Emery convinced him with an enticing contract running until 2030.

Aston Villa wouldn’t have had any space for a new striker had The Friedkin Group not signed Malen for Roma, and that £25m deal has also given the Villans the financial wriggle-room to afford Abraham.

So, on the face of it, it certainly feels like The Friedkin Group have inadvertently caused Everton to miss out on the 28-year-old.

Abraham – who Jack Grealish adores – has scored 12 goals and provided three assists in 24 appearances for Besiktas so far this season.

Everton still have a shred of hope to cling to

There is still a slight glimmer of hope for Everton here, as Aston Villa need to find a way to appease Besiktas.

The Turkish giants signed Abraham on loan from Roma back in July, but Besiktas now technically own the Londoner after triggering a purchase option in that agreement.

As a result, The Times say Aston Villa need to “navigate delicate negotiations” with Besiktas to ensure this deal still goes through.

If the Villans fumble those talks, it might give Everton a chance to swoop in.
