Everton’s wait for their first Premier League win of 2024 continues after Brighton and Hove Albion rescued a late point on the South Coast.
The Toffees’ first win of the new year looked within sight after Jarrad Branthwaite gave Sean Dyche’s side a 75th-minute lead at the Amex.
However, Lewis Dunk’s 95th-minute equaliser means Everton head back to the North West with a solitary point.

The Seagulls dominated possession and, per FotMob, amassed 64 per cent of the ball and a total xG (expected goals) of 1.25 compared to Everton’s 0.28.
The home side dominated the ball heavily in the first half and left one Sky Sports pundit lost for words.
Tim Sherwood can’t believe what he saw in Everton 1-1 draw v Brighton
Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, Tim Sherwood couldn’t quite believe the amount of possession Brighton had in the first period.
“It’s ridiculous the amount of possession they (Brighton) have had,” he said.
“Everton are getting worked. It’s still 0-0 here, but I do not know how.”
Nevertheless, Everton’s gameplan nearly worked perfectly, with Dunk’s late hammer blow being the only thing preventing a vital three points.

Talking after the fixture, Dyche was less than pleased with the additional time awarded.
“We got in at half-time in pretty good shape. I was pretty pleased with the performance, and then the second half was a really good away performance, never giving up too much, looking a threat and then we scored the goal,” he told BBC Sport.
“But inevitably they get nine minutes [stoppage time] and everyone is wondering where that came from and the crowd get a lift and they have freedom to throw things forward. If anything, we should have kept the ball better and the final moment, you’ve always got to stop a cross.”
Furthermore, the Everton boss rued a late missed chance from Beto.
“Beto has a chance to seal the game late on, I don’t know whether he stumbles but he doesn’t strike it cleanly – these are the defining moments and we haven’t quite found them over the past run of games, yet the performances have been very good and strong which I thought a lot of the game today was,” he added.
Everton must start putting chances in the back of the net; failure to do so will see this relegation battle go to the wire.
