Everton winger Jack Harrison has admitted he was surprised by one thing the Goodison Park crowd did in the win over Bournemouth.

The Goodison Park faithful were finally given something to cheer about on Saturday, as Everton recorded their first home Premier League win of the season so far. The Toffees dispatched Bournemouth by a 3-0 scoreline, with James Garner, Jack Harrison, and Abdoulaye Doucoure all finding the back of the net.

The strike from Harrison was particularly special. He displayed exquisite technique to send his long range effort arcing over the goalkeeper. The ball satisfyingly clipped the underside of the crossbar en route to the back of the net.

The goal marked Harrison’s first for the Merseyside club. The Leeds United loanee’s introduction to the team was delayed by injury, but the 26-year-old wide man truly got to announce himself as an Everton player this weekend as he opened his account for the Merseyside outfit in style.

Harrison bowled over by Everton supporters

The home crowd gave Harrison a brilliant ovation for his goal, but it was not this reaction from the fans which caught the former England under-21 international’s attention.

As quoted by the club’s official website, Harrison has admitted he was surprised by the way the Everton faithful responded to Garner’s opening goal. Harrison said, “the atmosphere was amazing. Even after Jimmy’s goal I was a bit surprised by the noise that they made. I was really happy to get off the mark and hopefully there will be more this season.”

It is unsurprising to see Everton fans greet a goal with such enthusiasm. The Goodison Park crowd have been starved of such moments so far this season. Prior to this match, the only Premier League goal Everton had managed to bag at home came in a 2-1 defeat to Luton Town. This was a much-needed moment of catharsis.

Sean Dyche will appreciate the power that the crowd hold. When Goodison Park is rocking, it is a huge boost for his players. Harrison has now had a taste of that. Everton need to make it a regular occurrence.
