Jake O’Brien has been speaking about his time at Everton so far, and suggested there was one player who was key in convincing him to come.

Jake O’Brien has gained a bit more prominence at Goodison Park recently following the arrival of David Moyes.

O’Brien struggled for game time under Sean Dyche following his move from Lyon last summer.

But he’s now started the last three Premier League games, with the Toffees winning all of them.

O’Brien has talked up Moyes following his recent integration into the starting XI. But the Republic of Ireland international has also now moved to praise one Toffees star who has been so key for him.

Seamus Coleman is currently 16 years deep into his stint at Everton, having been signed on the watch of David Moyes in his first stint at the club.

It is often pointed out that Coleman’s £60,000 transfer fee makes him one of the biggest bargains in Premier League history, and Evertonians hold him dear to their hearts.

Coleman became captain at Goodison Park back in 2019 following the departure of Phil Jagielka, and it’s a role he’s really taken to.

O’Brien has really sung Coleman’s praises in a new interview with the club, revealing how much he’s helped him settle. And he actually suggests he was influential in his decision to sign in the first place.

O’Brien told evertonfc.com: “He’s integrated me into the squad and there’s no better person to have help you come in because he’s so well respected.

“The advice he gives you is top. I had a conversation with him before I came to the Club, and everything he said was right: friendly club; friendly people.

“He’s very serious, but he has a laugh as well. He’s a good person to be around and to have in the squad because he brings everyone together.”

Everton could end up very thankful to Coleman over O’Brien

So it seems Coleman played a reasonably big part in helping Everton to sign O’Brien last summer.

And the captain’s contribution may well end up being something that people look back on.

O’Brien’s admitted his frustrations over game time at Everton so far, and that is understandable.

But he now looks set for a much more productive second half of the season under Moyes, who clearly rates the 23-year-old.

Moyes recently praised O’Brien and suggested he could now be a regular. He’s got all the makings of a successful Premier League defender, and hopefully, he can now realise his potential in an Everton shirt.
