It seems that Everton fans are not the only group who felt like yesterday’s result should have warranted far more than they got.

After all, a number of players have since taken to social media to voice their displeasure over the disallowed goal and the manner of their defeat, in which they managed more shots, more shots on target, more big chances and hit the woodwork more times than their opponent, via Sofascore.

However, as seems to be the way with the Toffees, they could not find that killer blow. But they certainly came mightily close.

James Garner seemed to spearhead that mass-vocalised frustration, with his Instagram story outlining what he felt his side had deserved.

It would take just seven words to detail his thoughts, writing: ‘We deserved more, enjoy your Christmas blues’.

Garner enjoyed one of his finer games yesterday, and yet was likely still overshadowed by the majestic Andre Gomes performance.

Alongside Amadou Onana, it could be argued that they laid the foundation for the success earned by the substitute.

However, that’s also not to suggest that he was not a creative presence too, dictating the play with an outstanding 93% pass accuracy.

What makes that figure even more impressive is the fact that he would also post three key passes, even raining down two shots on target and striking the woodwork too.

This on-ball excellence is something which Evertonians have become accustomed to in recent months, as the 22-year-old has swiftly grown into one of Sean Dyche’s most important assets.

After all, he combines such efficiency with a steely work rate too, making four interceptions, three tackles, and winning a further six duels too.

Despite being on the losing side, his 8.0 rating was only bettered by two other players on the entire pitch.

We would even write, in our post-match player ratings: ‘Was impressive in spells, but was particularly neat and tidy during Everton’s fine period at the end of the first half. Could have scored with a few half chances and kissed the woodwork with one effort. A fine creative showing.’

Dyche will be hoping that Garner can post a similarly industrious display on Wednesday when facing the possession-dominant Manchester City under a floodlit Goodison Park.
