James Garner has been in sensational form for Everton this season and was excellent against Chelsea on the weekend.

Despite the 2-0 loss at Stamford Bridge, David Moyes said James Garner was one of the best players on the pitch.

Speaking post-match, the Scotsman explained: “It was a tough decision to take Jimmy Garner off. He was as good as anybody on the pitch today.”

Moyes also made it clear that he has no intention of selling Garner, amid the links to Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa.

It turns out that Thomas Tuchel was actually at the Everton game, and Garner has now sent a clear message to the England manager.

James Garner hopeful Thomas Tuchel will call him up to the England squad

After the game, Garner was asked by Everton’s website about whether he could be called up to the England squad.

The 24-year-old certainly made it clear to Tuchel that he’s desperate to join the next Three Lions camp, but insisted he’s trying not to get too distracted by it.

“I hope so, yes,” Garner admitted.

Another brilliant James Garner performance… how much is he now worth?

“That is the plan but, at the same time, I’m not too focused on it. I’m just trying to be my best every single weekend and get three points for the team.

“If that means me hopefully getting a call-up one day, I’ll be really happy.”

Tuchel was pictured talking to Garner after the Manchester United game last month, so evidently, he’s a big part of his thinking leading up to the next international break in March.

Everton are in talks to renew James Garner’s contract

Garner’s current deal actually expires in the summer, although the Toffees do have a clause to extend it for another year.

Garner is in talks to sign a new contract anyway, and there is optimism on both sides that an agreement will be reached.

The former Man United youngster recently admitted that he’s been loving his football on Merseyside and is clearly really happy at the club.

“I’m enjoying my football, of course,” Garner said earlier this month.

“It’s been a great start to the season for the club, and I’ve started quite well myself. I just need to keep on improving, keep on winning games and add a little bit more.”

Garner has also suggested that he’d love to be Everton captain one day, as he sees himself as a natural leader.
