Everton’s desperation to end their 28-year silverware hoodoo is arguably what got them into the financial mess they find themselves in today, with Farhad Moshiri boasting good intentions but terrible methods.
Their ten-point punishment has drawn mass furore on Merseyside, having set back a side that finally seemed to be healing after years of pain and suffering.
Were it not for that deduction, the harshest in the entire 135-year history of the division, the Toffees would currently be just three points off a European spot and awaiting a cup quarter-final to be played later this month.
Well, one of Sean Dyche’s stars already has his eyes set on their EFL Cup clash with Fulham, with James Tarkowski speaking live to TalkSPORT this morning.

Having already outlined the one teammate he argues with most, he was then asked about the prospect of claiming silverware in a royal blue jersey.
The burning desire was immediately clear in his response (12/12/2023, 9:10 am): ‘Absolutely, you mentioned some of the teams, I think if you look at the big teams have been that have been knocked out, what a chance to get some silverware. I’m desperate to win something in my career and this is probably the best chance so far.’
How good has James Tarkowski been for Everton?
To emphasise just how good Tarkowski has been for the club, it is worth noting that it would not be a ludicrous shout to suggest that he is one of the greatest transfers in their recent history.
Brought in for free after Burnley’s relegation, it took no time at all for the 31-year-old to acclimatise to life in Merseyside.
In fact, he was one of the sole shining lights of a torrid campaign under Frank Lampard, which culminated to his sacking in late January.
Enter Dyche, to reunite with his former centre-back, and somehow improve him even further.

The steely stopper now boasts a 7.28 average rating in the Premier League this season, with that figure buoyed by his 1.8 interceptions, 1.3 tackles, 3.9 clearances and 4.7 ball recoveries per game, via Sofascore.
Now captaining the club, it would be a welcome sight for all Everton fans to see the defender lift any trophy above his head in celebration. Given the hardships endured by the players, and more importantly the fans, it would be a glorious ending to what has been a truly abysmal past few years.
