Everton oversaw a mixed bag of performances from the many stars sent out on international duty.

For England, Jordan Pickford made his first-ever error, whilst Jarrad Branthwaite was called up but handed no minutes by Gareth Southgate.

Vitaliy Mykolenko helped his Ukraine side secure one of the few places left at the European Championships this summer, meanwhile his fellow full-back Nathan Patterson struggled again with Scotland.

However, one man who did stand out was Seamus Coleman, who continues to go from strength to strength despite only just recovering from yet another damning injury.

The physical and mental strength this £55k-a-week talisman boasts is crazy, and has clearly caught the eye of James Tarkowski over the years.

Seeking to answer questions sent in by various fans, one young supporter actually asked him how he felt about pulling on the armband as vice-captain of the club.

Given Coleman’s continued absence throughout this and last season, the 31-year-old defender has actually adorned it far more than Sean Dyche would have preferred, given the issues that have since plagued him at right-back.

Tarkowski kind of eludes to missing the Republic of Ireland international as well, affirming that whilst he loves his leadership role, few do it like the club captain.

He noted: ‘Yeah I love being vice captain. It’s a great honour to wear the armband on a match day whenever Seamus isn’t in the XI. So yeah I’m very fortunate and it’s great working under Seamus Coleman as well.

‘Seeing his leadership skills, the way he runs this place day to day with the way he trains, the way he talks, just everything about him. It’s been a great honour.’

Seamus Coleman must now start for Sean Dyche

Having since shone for his country across the latest international break, and earned this kind of vocal support from Tarkowski, now is surely the perfect time to reintegrate Coleman back into the starting side.

After all, neither Ben Godfrey, Ashley Young or Patterson have really laid down a marker, despite the latter having admitted wanting to play more.

He is unlikely to get that chance after his spell with Scotland, in which the national media ravaged his blunder which handed Northern Ireland the win.

Meanwhile, his ageing counterpart actually won Player of the Match for his country, garnering huge praise for his mature and physical performance.

At 35 years old, he seems hungrier than ever to return to Everton and prove his point.

As comfortably the most well-rounded right-back Dyche has at his disposal, Coleman simply must now start as they travel to AFC Bournemouth this weekend.
