Jamie Carragher has never been one to shy away from giving his opinions on Everton.
As a former Liverpool defender who actually supported the Toffees before he began his longstanding affiliation with the Reds, questions routinely arrive regarding the true nature of his allegiances.
And whilst he attests that the Anfield outfit will always remain at the top of his list, with his commentaries often portraying this, his soft spot for the Toffees is clearly evident too.
He takes time to defend the club when possible, and although his biases do shine through at times, he is largely a force for good in the Merseyside community and deserves praise.
Now, he has taken up a position that will once again align with plenty of Evertonians, but instead this is an opinion regarding a player rather than a moral standpoint.
Jamie Carragher never rated Amadou Onana
Speaking on the latest episode of The Overlap, the 46-year-old was vocal throughout as he offered his verdict on all things Premier League.
However, when discussing one particular summer deal, he was less than convinced, and would tell the fans of those respective clubs as such.

With Aston Villa the side who eventually snagged Amadou Onana from Goodison Park for a mouth-watering £50m fee, Carragher was surprisingly unimpressed with this business.
After all, as he would later admit, the Belgium international has never really been a player he has rated throughout his spell on Merseyside, which commenced in 2022 when he joined Everton for £33m.
The Champions League-winning centre-back noted: ‘I was never really impressed with him too much at Everton. I thought he did alright when I saw him for Belgium, maybe a different style of football as well. But as I said it would be interesting to see if he can replace Luiz in there.’
Amadou Onana flattered to deceive at Everton
It is hard to argue with Carragher’s claims, although opinions on Onana do tend to divide Everton’s fanbase.
After all, there are many who understandably were not a fan of his theatrics, with the 22-year-old often playing up to the crowd, seeking to inspire more support from them in waves.
Plenty detested this, instead wishing he would focus on his own game, which admittedly flattered to deceive throughout his spell at Goodison Park.
He clearly had all the attributes needed to dominate football matches, standing at 6 foot 5 but moving with the grace and technical prowess of an attacking midfielder.

However, for all his obvious ability, he failed to take control of games like many expected, despite what statistics those fans who would argue his importance bring up.
In the end, Onana failed to reach the remarkable potential expected of him at Everton. There is every chance that he will now do so at Villa Park, thus proving Carragher and plenty of Evertonians wrong too.
