Everton have finally found out the verdict of their appeal against their 10-point Premier League deduction.

And thankfully for Evertonians, it was a largely positive outcome.

On Monday, 26 February, the Toffees discovered their initial 10-point deduction had been reduced.

The club was given back points, taking their original punishment from ten to six.

Monday’s news means Sean Dyche’s side have moved up two places to 15th in the Premier League standings.

Now, talking on Monday Night Football, Jamie Carragher has shared his immediate reaction to the Premier League’s verdict.

Jamie Carragher reacts to Everton appeal verdict

Talking on Sky Sports Monday Night Football, the former Liverpool defender feels the six-point penalty is “about right”.

“Yeah, I think so. It’s almost a punishment which most people will ‘go okay, that’s fair’,” he said.

“Everton accepted their guilt when it first started, but when that original punishment came of 10 points, it felt like everyone was a bit taken aback by that number, considering the breach and how much it was over.

“I actually think if it were six points at the start, there wouldn’t have been this appeal and all this frustration from Everton fans and things like that. Six feels about right.”

This can certainly be viewed as a positive outcome. Obviously, the initial points deduction was far from ideal, but four points to be handed back is a massive boost.

Ahead of the verdict being announced, there was a genuine chance of further points being deducted.

Now Everton will fancy their chances of maintaining their Premier League status. Wins are tough to come by; the Toffees’ 2024 form pays testament to that so that this news will be well-received for the most part.

The saga has been ridiculous from start to finish, and the appeal process should not have dragged on for the period it did; it was impacting Luton Town, Burnley, Sheffield United, Crystal Palace, Brentford and Nottingham Forest.

There will be a sigh of relief from all those clubs towards the bottom end of the Premier League table.
