Everton needs as much support as they can get in their fight against the Premier League.
It is not set to be an easy battle, and whilst the legal challenges mount given they have just received a second breach in just one season, it seems so too does the support from various sections of the media and politics.
Andy Burnham is one such vocal advocate, and the hope was that Jamie Carragher would be too.
However, his recent comments have irked a fanbase that few would want to be at odds with, and the 45-year-old has been left seeking to justify his pointless claims.
Why were Everton fans unhappy with Jamie Carragher?
Although he has given them many reasons for unhappiness across his 17 years as a player, since his move into punditry the scouser has largely supported both sides off the pitch.
As a boyhood Evertonian, he seemed to understand the plight of the fanbase, offering a nuanced view on many flashpoints across the last few years.

However, he is missing the mark quite spectacularly at the moment, with his latest article for The Telegraph a damning indicator of this.
Even referencing Simon Jordan’s talkSPORT segment, where even he lambasts the division, Carragher could not truly justify his claims, as he has now written: ‘I got dogs abuse yesterday from Everton fans over this column for not supporting them. I stuck to my guns because I believe it to be right & having just listened to @slbsn on Talksport I’m glad I did!
‘He made the point Everton could be in breach of the PSR rules for next season as well! Everton are feeding a narrative to their own supporters that they are being hard done to, the 10pts may be harsh but as I said yesterday, the ownership is a shambles!’
Did Jamie Carragher deserve the abuse from Everton fans?
Whilst nobody deserves ‘abuse’, the backlash to his comments were absolutely warranted given how useless they are in the current time frame.
After all, he does not exactly need to tell Everton fans that their board was and is inept. They protested for years over Farhad Moshiri‘s inadequacy, resulting in the bulk of the board departing and the Iranian now seeking to sell up.
That is a frustration that should have been voiced a year or two ago, as things have significantly moved on.
With his platform, and given how much he does for the city, his voice would be perfect to support Everton from within Sky Sports’ impenetrable fortress.

However, as is, the former Liverpool defender seems intent on making the same points over and over regarding an ownership that will likely not even be here by the summer.
It is the Premier League who need holding to account, not Moshiri, as now they are the only ones who can reverse their decision.
