Everton are yet to unveil any new signings so far this winter, but a significant announcement involving James Garner has now emerged.
The Toffees have just revealed that the man born in Birkenhead has signed a new contract until July 2030 – putting an end to any doubts about his future at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
After James Garner posted the news on Instagram, several players flocked to reply – including Jarrad Branthwaite and Jake O’Brien.
How much would YOU say James Garner is worth now? 💰
Everton paid just £9m for him in 2022… 👏
James Garner extension delights many associated with Everton
The Everton No.37 has been a key man for David Moyes so far this season, so news of his commitment to the Toffees has left many associated with the club overjoyed.
Branthwaite was amongst the first to respond after hearing about the new deal, writing “nice you” along with a blue heart emoji.
O’Brien then popped up to express his delight, posting “love ittt” with the addition of a blue heart emoji as well.
Additionally, Joleon Lescott – who made 143 appearances for Everton – replied in a similar fashion to Branthwaite, posting “nice Jim” in response to the news.
Others such as James Tarkowski, Harrison Armstrong, Michael Keane, Thierno Barry, Dwight McNeil and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were seen to have ‘liked’ the post as well, but opted not to leave a comment.
Clearly, many Everton players – past or present – recognise what a significant deal this is for the Toffees.
Everton arguably have a £100m player in James Garner
Everton only paid £9m to sign the 24-year-old from Manchester United back in September 2022, but we feel he is already worth roughly ten times that amount, especially after The Friedkin Group tied him down to a new deal.
What more does James Garner need to show to earn an England call-up? 🏴
Interestingly, Garner is behind only Declan Rice – who Arsenal paid £105m for – and Bruno Fernandes in terms of ‘big chances’ created this season.
The Everton star can boast eight, while Rice has 11 and Fernandes 15.
Not only that, but no Englishman in the entire Premier League can boast more tackles, interceptions and chances created than Garner when all those metrics are combined.
As you can see, the Everton maestro sits ahead of the likes of Rice, Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton in this list, all of whom are widely considered to be £100m midfielders themselves.
So, we see no reason why Everton cannot place a similar valuation on Garner, who is firmly in contention to win the club’s Player of the Season award this term if he maintains his superb form.
