Yesterday saw the mood around Everton boosted significantly, as one of their brightest young stars was called up to the England national team.

Set to join up with Jordan Pickford, a mainstay under Gareth Southgate, Jarrad Branthwaite has earned a reward for his formidable form at the back for the Toffees.

What Jarrad Branthwaite’s former coach said about Sean Dyche

Speaking to iNews, a former coach of his, Steven Pressley, was unsurprisingly full of pride and praise for the 21-year-old.

However, he also took time to suggest that this was just the beginning, arguably touting his services out to other clubs who prefer a more expansive system.

This was detailed through the following claim: ‘‘He is outstanding with both feet. No criticism of Everton because I really like Sean Dyche, but he is a player who within that style of play you are not seeing him build the game in a manner I think he can.

‘He passes well on both sides. That is not natural with many defenders. There are more layers to him than you are seeing at present. You have to understand in terms of being a defender he is a baby. You are not going to see the best of him for six to seven years.’

Well, whether he continues to shine at Goodison Park or elsewhere, this England call-up will certainly go a long way towards boosting the price tag they can command.

Sean Dyche has done wonders for Jarrad Branthwaite’s development

Although it took some time for him to actually drop Michael Keane and replace him with Branthwaite, once he did the side has never looked back.

Built on the foundations laid by his and James Tarkowski’s unflappable presence, Everton’s season has been somewhat salvaged by their solidity.

In fact, their combination has helped the Toffees somehow boast the fourth-best defence in the division despite the club sitting 16th in the Premier League table.

By easing him in, Branthwaite was not rushed into immediate action unprepared. Yet in the same breath, this experience in battling at the wrong end of the division will only add to his preparedness for the subsequent battles he will face across his illustrious career.

The likelihood is that, should Everton survive the drop this season, next campaign will see Dyche take the reigns off a little bit more and allow his players to truly showcase the full breadth of their talents. For now, they cannot afford to risk anything.
