Jesper Lindstrom now set for fresh chapter after Everton declined option to buy as club lodge £870k loan offer

Everton have had a busy summer so far, and one decision saw the club decline to sign Jesper Lindstrom on a permanent deal.

Everton signed Jesper Lindstrom on a season-long loan from Napoli a year ago, and he was the fourth addition of that window after Tim Iroegbunam, Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Harrison (back for a second loan).

Hopes were high over Lindstrom, who said at the time of his move (via Everton official): “I’m a fast player with a good technique and a good shot, so I think I can add speed on the counter-attacks and I can play in several positions – as a number 10, as a winger. I will give my best.”

Frustratingly though, Lindstrom failed to live up to expectations in 2025/26.

He made 29 appearances for the Toffees across all competitions, and failed to score a single goal while providing just one assist.

Towards the end of the campaign, Lindstrom got injured and later had a hernia operation, meaning his final appearance for Everton came against West Ham United on March 15.

To the surprise of no one, Everton didn’t sign Lindstrom permanently this summer.

And now, the player is set for a new challenge.

Lindstrom returned to Napoli following Everton’s decision not to sign him permanently.

The Toffees had the opportunity to buy Lindstrom for around £18 million after his loan spell.

But seemingly, the feeling was that Lindstrom hadn’t done enough to convince, with his final third output certainly disappointing to say the least.

But despite his struggles in England, one club in Germany have not been put off.

According to journalist Matteo Moretto, Wolfsburg have actually now tabled a loan offer to take Lindstrom from Napoli for around £870,000.

This offer apparently includes an option to buy for just over £11 million.

Lindstrom, of course, has already played in the Bundesliga in his career. In the summer of 2021, he joined Eintracht Frankfurt and spent a couple of seasons with them before heading to Italy.

Lindstrom needed David Moyes sooner at Everton

So Lindstrom looks like he could be Germany-bound again, and that probably shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise.

His form at Eintracht is what convinced Napoli to part with around £25 million to snap him up, so a return to Germany could be exactly what he needs.

It didn’t really work out for him at Napoli, with a post-Scudetto malaise prompting managerial changes which prevented him from settling.

He again had to deal with a managerial change at Everton, with Sean Dyche leaving the club midway through the campaign.

He’d actually featured quite a lot under Dyche, but just wasn’t delivering consistently.

Arguably, his form did improve when David Moyes came in but potentially, his upturn in a hybrid role rather came a little too late. Moyes apparently did show some interest in keeping Lindstrom, but ultimately the decision was taken not to swoop.

Had Moyes arrived at the club sooner, perhaps Everton would have been more tempted to keep Lindstrom around.
