Everton have been linked with a January move for Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee, and now John O’Shea has given his verdict on whether it’d be a good signing.

Thierno Barry and Beto have struggled this season, and so David Moyes is expected to sign a striker when the January window opens.

Joshua Zirkzee has been on David Moyes’ radar for years, dating back to his time as West Ham United manager.

Zirkzee is open to leaving for another club in the Premier League, so it seems as though there are serious legs to an Everton transfer.

With that said, here’s what former Man United defender John O’Shea makes of the potential transfer.

John O’Shea doesn’t think Joshua Zirkzee would be a good signing for Everton

Speaking on Stadium Astro, John O’Shea, who is a five-time Premier League winner, discussed Zirkzee’s potential transfer to Everton.

“I think that’s something David Moyes and Everton will be focusing on, that number nine,” O’Shea explained.

“If Zirkzee isn’t getting enough gametime at United, he has a World Cup to be thinking about, so he may be thinking he needs to get minutes somewhere to play.

“I don’t see him being the answer for Everton at the moment, maybe a short-term solution.”

Everton should prioritise Ivan Toney

Ivan Toney seems to be the most exciting striker linked to Everton, and his profile would certainly suit Moyes’ system the best.

Toney is a proven Premier League goalscorer and is excellent at linking up the play – something which Beto and Barry really struggle with.

The 29-year-old hasn’t been included in the last two England squads, so he may be tempted to return to the Premier League in January to get himself back in Thomas Tuchel’s thinking ahead of the World Cup.

Moyes actually looked at signing him when he was in the lower leagues at Peterborough United, so clearly the Scotsman is a long-term admirer.

Toney has netted nine goals in 12 games this season for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli.
