Everton are wading into the relative unknown with each new takeover suitor that arrives, with the only hope being that they can take the club back to where it belongs.
After all, following years of missteps under Farhad Moshiri‘s rule, regressing them to within an inch of their Premier League status, they need someone to bring them back above water.
Sean Dyche is doing a fine job fighting on all fronts, but he needs help from the top soon.
It’s an unsustainable practice, but one that could be set to end soon with John Textor‘s continued efforts to assume control.
John Textor backed to do one thing with Everton
Although his initial appraisal of Textor’s chances of an Everton takeover was far from positive, journalist Matt Slater did take time to discuss what might occur were the American to be successful in his conquest.
He told The Athletic podcast: ‘The Palace situation, again which you could argue is sort of a failure of due diligence. He thought he’d get control of Palace eventually. He got that wrong.

‘And I think he also, because he has this sort of optimistic very American view of things, a sort of can-do attitude, I think he thought he might be able to persuade Steve Parish of the merits of the multi-club model. And he’s failed.
‘Steve Parish thinks about Palace, morning noon and night. He doesn’t think about the multi-club model.
‘Now if you’re an Evertonian listening to this thinking he’s better than Farhad Moshiri… yeah maybe he is.
‘But he’s not the answer. He can’t be the answer to all your problems because his is a sort of unproven experiment, and he’s running pretty hot. Eagle football is stretched.’
What clubs does John Textor own?
To add Everton to his multi-club portfolio would be to grasp the crown jewel in his collection, snagging a place as an outright owner in the Premier League.
It is clearly something that he has craved for some time, having been with Crystal Palace since 2021, although the 40% stake he has is shared with co-owners Steve Parish, David Blitzer and Josh Harris.
However, his desperation to move on from East London is related to his inability to ever make the big decisions as he sees fit, with Slater also revealing how he is routinely outvoted by his peers.
As he waded his way into football, it took just one more year for Textor to add more his collection, acquiring a 90% stake in Brazilian side Botafogo in 2022 just before he bought Belgian minnow RWD Molenbeek too.

Later that year, he then sought out a 40% stake in Lyon, thus becoming the owner there as well.
This caps off his portfolio, but the only way he is going to acquire Everton is if he sells up at Palace. That is proving to be one of many hurdles for him to overcome at the moment.
