Everton have made initial contact with FC Nuremberg over the signing of Can Uzun.
That’s according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, who has claimed the Toffees have enquired about the 17-year-old’s availability.
Uzun joined FC Nuremberg’s academy in 2019 and netted 15 goals in 15 games in the U-19 Bundesliga last season before he was called up to the senior team.
The teenager has enjoyed an exceptional start to the current campaign, scoring his first and second professional goals in a 2-2 draw against Hannover in August – becoming Nuremberg’s youngest goalscorer in history at 17 years and 268 days old.
Uzun went onto score a hat-trick in the following game and has since scored another two, taking his tally to seven goals in only 10 games.

Uzun has received huge praise from his coach Christian Fiel, who called the Turkey U18 international an ‘extraordinary talent’.
His performances certainly haven’t gone unnoticed, with reports claiming Bayern Munich had tried to lure him to the Allianz Arena in the summer. However, Uzun decided to stay with Nuremberg in order to play regular football.
The attention hasn’t stopped there though, with Everton and Benfica now looking to snap him up.
Plettenberg tweeted: “Can Uzun: Everton and Benfica have enquired about the 17-year-old top talent from FC Nuremberg.
“There’s also an interest from Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Besiktas. One club has already submitted an official offer.”
A promising pursuit of Can Uzun
While Can Uzun isn’t a big name, his stats this season tell you what you need to know about a player who is yet to reach his 18th birthday.
The midfielder certainly seems like a youngster with an incredibly high ceiling and Everton must be looking in the right place if a team like Benfica are interested. The Portuguese outfit are known for snapping up youngsters on the cheap and transforming them into world beaters.

The Toffees have spent so many years splashing out on players with high expectations and being underwhelmed, so bringing in a teenager with plenty of potential could be a breath of fresh air.
Of course, Everton will have to beat off a lot of heavy competition, however at least their pursuit is a sign of things to come.
