Everton won’t be signing Jonny Evans this summer.
That’s according to Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers, who has claimed the defender is ‘definitely not’ joining the Toffees, despite fans spotting his name mentioned in a recent training video.
Evans left Leicester City this summer following their relegation after five years with the club and is reportedly training with Manchester United as he awaits his next destination.

A number of Toffees fans were left convinced that the 35-year-old was moving to Goodison Park after a video published to Everton’s Instagram page appeared to show someone behind the camera saying: ‘We’ve got Jonny Evans coming in’.
The clip has now been deleted after a flurry of rumours, however Myers believes the centre-back currently remains a free agent and won’t be linking up with Sean Dyche on Merseyside.
Talk surrounding Evans’ potential move to Everton follows fellow veteran defender Ashley Young joining the club on a free transfer.

Jonny Evans would be a good signing but Everton don’t need such an old defence
Jonny Evans was always a very solid defender for Leicester City and would have been a useful addition to Everton’s dressing room if they hadn’t already brought in Ashley Young.
The Northern Ireland international brings leadership and experience to the table, however the Toffees certainly don’t need another veteran to join the former Aston Villa man.

The Premier League side already have James Tarkowski and Seamus Coleman in their backline – the club should be looking to bring in some more promising defenders rather than another free agent that arguably wouldn’t improve their squad.
There is surely no debate about the comment made in the Instagram video so it remains to be seen whether Sean Dyche was indeed looking to bring Evans in, however fans won’t complain if Myers is correct in saying he won’t be arriving this summer.
