Everton have been linked with a move for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips in the January transfer window.

After loan spells at Ipswich Town and West Ham, the 30-year-old is back at the Etihad Stadium, where he is struggling for game time.

Phillips has made just one senior appearance in all competitions this season, when he came off the bench to play seven minutes against Huddersfield.

Who would be your perfect January signing for Everton?

He still has another two-and-a-half years to run on his current contract at the Manchester outfit.

David Moyes wants Kalvin Phillips in January transfer window

According to Sky Sports, Everton are open to signing a central midfielder in January and will even consider a loan.

With Idrissa Gueye out for the AFCON for a month, David Moyes is desperate for options in the middle of the park.

That has turned to Everton reigniting their interest in Phillips, with a potential January move on the cards.

He was linked with a move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium in the summer and once again is on the Toffees’ radar.

Jamie Carragher has praised him during his Leeds United days

Back in 2020, Phillips put in a solid performance in the middle of the park for Leeds United against Everton.

Leeds ended up winning the game 1-0, and the English midfielder was arguably the best player on the pitch.

If YOU were David Moyes, how would you get the best out of Kalvin Phillips? 😯

Jamie Carragher was on punditry for Sky Sports, and he singled out Phillips for praise.

He said: “Phillips, he’s been outstanding. You see his stats, he’s top of everything. It’s been a really big team performance, but I think he’s been outstanding. Everton never really got to grips with him from minute one really, he’s had the whole of Goodison Park to play in.”

How can Phillips strengthen Everton?

At his best, Phillips is a deep-lying playmaker who can dictate the tempo of the game.

He is press resistant and is also willing to put his body on the line for his team.

However, since his move from Leeds to Manchester City, there have only been a handful of good performances from the 30-year-old as he has battled multiple injury issues.

If Moyes can reignite that spark, he could see Phillips making the Everton midfield tick and also him dropping deep to help build from the back.

It certainly is a risk to bring him to the club, but the hierarchy may be open to it if it is a loan deal with no option to buy.
