The Friedkin Group are showing their ambition at Everton this summer transfer window.

The Toffees are interested in John Stones and Jack Grealish, with the latter made surplus to requirements by Pep Guardiola.

David Moyes is also exploring a move to sign striker Thierno Barry from Villarreal after a prolific 19-goal season.

It’s understood that Barry has a £33m release clause in his contract, and Newcastle United have been sniffing around that, too.

As well as a centre-forward, a more versatile attacker also appears to be on the agenda for Moyes, and one of Everton’s rumoured targets has actually been likened to Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

Kevin Strootman said Everton target Albert Gudmundsson reminds him of Mohamed Salah

Everton are exploring a move to sign Albert Gudmundsson, and it’s understood he wants to make the next step in his career.

He spent last season on loan at Fiorentina and there is a belief his parent club Genoa may sanction his sale for around £20m, which would represent a decent bit of business for the Toffees.

Especially considering Kevin Strootman, who played with Salah at Roma, said Gudmundsson reminds him of the Egyptian talisman.

“He reminds me of Salah when he was at Roma, in that every now and then he disappears,” Strootman explained back in 2023. “Much like Salah then, he would have four or five chances per match and only score at most one.

“They used to say that if Salah was more clinical, he would be playing for Liverpool, and that is exactly what happened. All joking aside, Gudmundsson is a devastating player and also an exemplary professional.”

Gudmundsson stats 2024/25

Gudmundsson enjoyed a pretty productive season for Fiorentina last term, registering 11 goal involvements in total.

The 27-year-old mainly operated as a second striker but did operate as an attacking midfielder on eight occasions.

Gudmundsson’s addition would allow Moyes to play with two up top, giving him a unique option which he currently doesn’t have.

Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur have previously held an interest in the Iceland international.
