Everton signed Bernard from Shakhtar Donetsk during the summer of 2018.

Marco Silva and his Everton chiefs managed to land Bernard’s signature on a free transfer, which was considered a coup at the time.

However, the Brazilian winger endured a tough time on Merseyside as he registered just 15 goal involvements in 84 appearances.

Moyes’ current deal expires next year… 🤔

Bernard was offloaded in 2021, joining UAE Pro League side Sharjah FC for around £863k. He now finds himself back in Brazil at Clube Atletico Mineiro.

That said, Kyle Walker has just come out and admitted Bernard was so tough to defend against.

Kyle Walker says former Everton winger Bernard was one of his toughest opponents

Speaking on The Overlap, Walker explained that Bernard tore him apart when he was at Shakhtar.

“Bernard, remember him who was at Shakhtar, went to Everton,” the 96-cap England international stated.

“I played him in the Champions League once, City. Ismaily and Bernard was the two, and he tore things around me at the Etihad.

“I hate that, I just want the ground to swallow me up and get me off the pitch as quick as possible.”

Wonder how much we’d be able to sell him for…😬

Whilst Bernard probably is considered a flop signing, there was no doubting his ability, and he did display that on occasions.

The Brazilian always played well within himself; he just struggled to cope with the physical intensity of the Premier League.

As evinced by the clip above, Bernard was a two-footed winger, so he had all the traits to be a top player, bar his stature.

The 33-year-old stands at 5ft 5in tall, so that really held him back in English football.
