Everton’s pursuit of Wilfried Gnonto isn’t completely over.

That’s according to Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers, who has reported that the Toffees could sign Gnonto late in the window ‘if it happens’.

Everton have long been interested in signing the teenager after Leeds United were relegated to the Championship.

Gnonto was forced to settle for a place on the bench towards the end of the season, however he proved to be one of the Whites’ few positives in a disastrous campaign as Gary Lineker admitted his level of maturity was ‘unusual’.

Sean Dyche’s side reportedly had a £15 million bid rejected for the Italian earlier this month and they were believed to be leading the race for his signature, however talkSPORT have recently claimed that Gnonto wasn’t keen on a move to Goodison Park and could instead stay at Elland Road.

Despite it looking like Everton’s pursuit of Gnonto was dead in the water, Myers claims they may still have a chance of signing the winger later in the window. With Leeds United looking to tie down the 19-year-old to a new deal, the Toffees will have to hope that doesn’t occur before deadline day.

Everton can’t really wait around for Wilfried Gnonto

While Everton’s pursuit of Wilfried Gnonto was arguably their most exciting this summer, they may now have to shut down any chance of bringing him in.

The Toffees have already been linked with a number of potential alternatives and don’t want to leave it till the eleventh hour to add to their attack.

If reports are true that Gnonto doesn’t want to Merseyside then they should just move on and find someone who really wants to help out the club this season.
