‘Lazy’… Rio Ferdinand blasts Everton player after what he saw against Man United

Everton are now eleven Premier League games without a win after Manchester United ran out 2-0 winners on Saturday afternoon.

It was a similar story for Sean Dyche’s side, with good opportunities and possession squandered due to a lack of firepower at the top end of the pitch.

Two first-half penalties were enough for Erik Ten Hag’s side to bounce back from their defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

James Tarkowski was culpable for the first spot-kick, bringing down Alejandro Garnacho with a clumsy tackle.

Rio Ferdinand has since had his say on the incident.

Talking on TNT Sports, the former Manchester United and England defender said: “He’s the one highlighted there; he doesn’t stop and watch; he runs from deep, and then it’s a clumsy tackle from Tarkowski. It’s lazy almost.”

Ferdinand is right. It was a sloppy challenge for the normally reliable 31-year-old. Had he stayed on his feet, the Argentinian was still a considerable distance from goal.

Once again, positives can be taken from the defeat. Per FotMob, Everton amassed 23 shots compared to United’s 15. However, with just six on target, it’s abundantly clear where the problems lie.

Turning good positions into clear-cut opportunities and adding quality in front of goal is an absolute must for Dyche during the upcoming three-week break.

The Everton boss is potentially eager to spend time away from the limelight. The pressure is mounting every week as the club’s winless run extends.

Two further away trips are to come upon the Premier League resuming with Bournemouth and Newcastle United over the Easter weekend.

The signs are there, but turning these promising performances and positions into points is now a must for all at Goodison Park.

Everton cannot rely upon Luton Town and Nottingham Forest failing to pick up points. Forest’s late defeat to Liverpool shows they’re more than capable of competing in this closely contested relegation battle.
