Everton face competition from Napoli for midfielder Arthur Atta.

The Toffees are facing a big summer ahead, with a number of positions being targeted for strengthening.

Initially, it was thought a right-back, centre-back and forward were the main positions.

Don’t hold back, let us know who you want gone this summer 👋

But a new report has suggested these positions plus a left-back, central midfielder and right winger are on the agenda.

Everton have several central midfield options at the moment. But interest in other players strongly suggests that one or two could be leaving. Tim Iroegbunam, Charly Alcaraz and Merlin Rohl have all lacked game time this season, and Harrison Armstrong has also faded in recent weeks.

It was recently reported that Everton are looking at Udinese’s Arthur Atta.

But a new claim suggests this may not be a straightforward move for the Toffees.

Arthur Atta is now Napoli’s top midfield target as Everton eye move

Top Italian publication Gazetta dello Sport has claimed that Atta has now attracted attention from Napoli.

And their interest appears to be quite strong.

The outlet suggests that Atta is Napoli’s top midfield target now to potentially replace Frank Anguissa, who is attracting attention. It’s stated Atta is seen as the ‘heir’ to Anguissa.

Napoli also have Ricardo Rios and Joao Gomes of Wolves on their shortlist.

But it’s made clear that Atta is their favourite.

And that’s not great for Everton, with Napoli obviously a huge club who are currently the reigning champions of Serie A.

That said they are about to lose their title, with Inter Milan top of the league by 10 points with just four games to go.

Atta asking price

It has previously been suggested that Atta could be sold for around £34 million this summer.

With Napoli in the mix to sign Atta, Udinese are in a good position, as a potential bidding war could break out.

But Everton might be hoping that their relationship with Udinese might lead to a cheaper deal being struck.

Everton signed Beto from Udinese in 2023, so perhaps there will be scope for the Toffees to get Atta for a decent fee.

But the emergence of Napoli in the race isn’t the best update, given they’ll be able to offer Champions League football next season.
