Amadou Onana has taken to Instagram to address his red card for the Belgium national team.
Writing on his social media, the midfielder admitted he felt ‘bitter’ after he was dismissed following a second yellow card.
Belgium needed a win over Austria last night to guarantee them a place at the Euro 2024 tournament and they looked set to take the three points as they went 3-0 up on the hour mark.
However, the hosts got one back and were handed a life-line when Onana was sent off after a unnecessary foul with 12 minutes of normal time to go.

While Austria did close the gap to just one goal, the Red Devils managed to hang on and qualified for next year’s tournament in Germany.
Onana took to Instagram shortly after to declare his pride in his teammates, while also admitting that he let them down when he was sent off.
“Mission completed. Euro 2024 we’re coming,” Onana wrote on his Instagram.
“Still feels bitter to have let the team down tonight, but I’m very proud of the way they fought until the last second.”
Everton fans are used to Belgium’s frustrations around Onana
The 22-year-old has eight Belgium caps to his name since making his debut last year and he will be expected to play a key role in Euro 2024, however fans were left frustrated by his red card.

Belgium newspaper Het Laatse Nieuws weren’t very unhappy at all with Onana, giving him a 4/10 rating and writing: “On land and in the air. Often sharp in the duels with good ball recoveries. Too nonchalant in possession – he can credit the 1-3. Unnecessarily took red in the slot.”
Thankfully, Belgium managed to qualify and so Onana’s absence for Monday’s clash with Sweden won’t matter too much.
