Dwight McNeil has responded to Abdoulaye Doucoure’s ‘McMessi’ nickname for him on Instagram.

Responding to Everton’s social media video, the winger shared the love for his teammate after he compared McNeil to Lionel Messi.

Everton’s Instagram account featured Doucoure yesterday as he participated in an interview where he was only allowed to respond with one word when asked about current and former players and managers.

While the midfielder called Jordan Pickford ‘crazy’, Seamus Coleman ‘dedicated’ and James Tarkowski ‘strong’, it was his brilliant response to McNeil’s name that intrigued fans.

Doucoure was quick to label the 23-year-old as ‘McMessi’, comparing him to the former Barcelona and PSG attacker.

While clearly a joke, McNeil has looked like a new player under Sean Dyche and finished last season as their top scorer with seven goals in the top flight.

Doucoure knows how important McNeil is to Everton

McNeil clearly appreciated the compliment from Doucoure, taking to his own Instagram to write ‘Love it!’ with a laughing emoji.

The former Burnley star has been absent in Everton’s campaign so far, making a cameo appearance against Sheffield United after he was sidelined with ankle ligament damage during a pre-season clash with Stoke City.

McNeil’s return is likely to boost the Toffees, who have had very limited attacking options so far and had been forced to play the likes of James Garner and Alex Iwobi out wide.

Dyche will be hoping the forward can have an even bigger impact this time round, while he will have the likes of Jack Harrison and Arnaut Danjuma competing for a place in the squad.
