Everton were unable to hang on as they were punished by a Mohamed Salah brace at Anfield today, but Jordan Pickford was one man who impressed.
The Toffees were on track to claim a point against Liverpool as they entered the final quarter without conceding at Anfield, despite going down to ten men.
Ashley Young was dismissed after being shown a second yellow card for a foul on Luis Diaz inside half an hour.
The Reds went onto dominate throughout the game, but were held by some brilliant defending from the visitors.

However, Michael Keane‘s handball gifted Liverpool the opener, before Salah went onto double their lead deep into added time.
While Everton endured yet another defeat at the hands of their local rivals, Jordan Pickford was one player that managed to receive praise for his display at Anfield.
Harvey Elliott’s excellent shot looked guaranteed to add to Salah’s first goal with only minutes of normal time remaining, however Pickford pulled off an exceptional save to keep it at 1-0.
Ally McCoist was left amazed by the £30m goalkeeper’s heroics and praised Pickford on TNT Sports. He said: “What a save that was. Magnificent. Nothing short of magnificent. He probably saw it late as well. What a save. Brilliant.”
Jordan Pickford was one of many that stood strong against Liverpool
Jordan Pickford wasn’t the only one who deserves praise from the trip to Anfield though.
Despite defeat, Everton defended really well at times and had Liverpool fans concerned that they would be leaving with only a point.

The Reds deserved to win the game in the end, but Sean Dyche‘s side looked impressive considering they only had ten men and were up against some of the Premier League’s best players.
Everton now need to dust themselves off and go again, because it was certainly a promising performance for future fixtures.
