Michael Ball has insisted that Everton should drop Idrissa Gana Gueye.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, the pundit was left baffled by what Gueye actually ‘brings to the table’ this season.
The midfielder spent three years at Goodison Park before joining Paris Saint-Germain in 2019 but has failed to meet expectations since his return last summer.
Despite his underwhelming performances, Gueye has started all seven of the Toffees’ matches in the Premier League this season. The 34-year-old’s presence has forced James Garner out wide, while he plays alongside Amadou Onana and Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Ball has now heavily criticised Gueye and has claimed that Sean Dyche should really be considering benching him if they want to improve on the weekend’s horror show.
“Abdoulaye Doucoure has got his goals but what has Idrissa Gueye brought to the table? He can tackle but he’s making mistakes, he’s not passing forward, he can’t shoot.
“I’d drop him and then if you do go ahead then you can bring him on to help defend that lead. I think it will be something that Sean Dyche will be thinking about because he obviously wants to play Garner because he likes him and he’s putting him in the starting line-up when he’s got wingers on the bench.”
Gueye needs dropping
Idrissa Gana Gueye has been an ever-present figure in Everton’s squad but he is yet to prove really why he is regularly picked.

He is probably the most defensive midfielder Sean Dyche has at his disposal, but when you are playing at home to Luton Town do you really need him?
James Garner showed his effectiveness in the centre against Brentford so Dyche made the wrong decision in pushing him back out wide again.
The Everton boss really needs to take a look at his team and not be so stubborn on playing certain players as it clearly isn’t working.
