Manager Everton wanted in 2021 now available as pressure builds on Moyes

David Moyes finds himself under pressure at Everton after a miserable end to the season.

Hopes were high at the Hill Dickinson Stadium heading into April after a run of three wins in four games.

However, a recent streak of six Premier League matches without victory has disappointingly left the Toffees in 12th place – and heavily reliant on others if they are to sneak into eighth on the final day to secure UEFA Conference League football.

Andoni Iraola is available and would be welcomed by most fans after guiding Bournemouth to sixth place as things stand – but a manager Everton wanted back in 2021 is now on the market too in Antonio Conte.

Antonio Conte set to leave Napoli

It was the Telegraph who claimed back in June 2021 that the Italian was under consideration by Everton. To be more precise, it was said that the Toffees made an “informal” enquiry to check on Conte.

The man born in Lecce ended up moving to Tottenham in November 2021 as Farhad Moshiri eventually hired Rafa Benitez in June 2021 to replace Carlo Ancelotti – who admires Moyes.

Now – however – Conte is about to leave Napoli, and interestingly has no “agreement elsewhere” according to Fabrizio Romano.

The former Chelsea boss oversaw a strong season with Napoli, who are set to finish second in Serie A barring a disaster against Udinese on Sunday and a win for AC Milan over Cagliari – although there was hardly much of a title race as Inter Milan sit 13 points clear at the summit.

In fairness, Napoli did win the Serie A title last term, narrowly pipping Inter Milan to the crown by a single point.

It remains to be seen if The Friedkin Group actually like Conte and would consider the 56-year-old as a replacement for Moyes.

However, considering The Friedkin Group own a Serie A side in Roma, they will presumably be aware of his work at Napoli this season, and should therefore be able to make a proper judgement on whether he is suitable to take over at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
