Everton have made this summer all about righting the wrongs of the past.
So, whether that be financial blunders or a failed effort to sign a player, the former has been somewhat rectified over many years of sustainable practice, with the latter solved through a string of signings, all of whom are long-term targets of Kevin Thelwell’s.
His proactivity in the market has been so refreshing to see, and he could continue to subscribe to this transfer theory with one final deal before the window slams shut.
Gian Piero Gasperini provides honest update on El Bilal Toure
Speaking to Italian outlet L’Eco di Bergamo, Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini sought to provide a pre-season round-up on his squad and their hopes for the season.
Now whilst most Evertonians will not care what happens to the Bergamo-based side in the coming term, what might interest them is their plans for El Bilal Toure, their £26m club-record signing who the Toffees tried to sign last year.

Open and honest about his players, Gasperini was forced to admit: ‘At the moment, to be clear, compared to last season I have less Miranchuk, Hateboer, Holm and Adopo. Scamacca and Scalvini got injured and Koopmeiners and Tourè wants to leave.
‘And then there are some other pending situations, like Bakker, Toloi, Palestra and Bonfanti. Then things will settle down, but it’s clear that we’re not starting the season in the ideal way.’
This comes after one report stated that Everton could try and sign El Bilal Toure, with Beto going in the opposite direction.
Everton could jump to sign another distressed asset this summer
It’s quite clear that, this summer, Thelwell has taken a new path with the money he was afforded.
After all, he simply had to change something, having already made great strides towards sustainability that had at least owed him the chance to try something new.

However, it remains to be seen what success is gained by acquiring distressed assets.
Whilst Iliman Ndiaye was once one of the Championship’s hottest properties, a move to Marseille has seen his spark go out somewhat. Everton have bought him with plans to reignite that.
Similarly with Jesper Lindstrom, a fine spell at Frankfurt showcased where his potential lay, but an ill-advised move to the mess that was Napoli has seen his career stall. Again, the Toffees were on hand to capitalise.
These are low-risk deals on players with their entire careers ahead of them, but with a point to prove as they are suffering from a dip at this moment in time.
Toure could mark yet another coup in this regard, snagging a target who the club wanted last summer after his previous campaign was ravaged by injury.
