Mason Holgate is seemingly on his way out at Everton but has issued where he would like to play his future football.

Holgate’s future at Everton has been on the ropes for a while now as the defender has endured three loan spells away from his parent club.

Despite having already made a cameo in Everton’s 3-0 defeat to Brighton in August, Holgate was always likely to leave Goodison Park with his deal expiring in 2025.

After failed spells with Sheffield United and Southampton, Holgate was set to leave Everton permanently but instead found his next loan move to play his football this season.

He’s now with West Brom for the second time in his career, where he has been performing well in the Championship, as the defender has issued a claim on his future.

Mason Holgate’s future with West Brom after Everton torment

The 28-year-old did have bright sparks in his early Everton career after his move from Barnsley in 2015, but that’s ultimately where it peaked.

Injuries impacted the defender as Holgate believed his Everton career ‘worked against him’ which led him to his new venture with West Brom in the Championship.

The Baggies are currently fighting for play-offs with Holgate being a strong component of their success.

The on-loan Everton star spoke to Sportsboom, revealing the perfect scenario for him now at West Brom.

“It’s been a difficult couple of seasons and my contract at Everton ends at the end of this season – I’m on loan at West Brom until the end of the season, so I just want to play as much football as possible and put myself in the shop window,” Holgate said.

“The last couple of years have been a bit tough for me. I’ve been injured a lot, I did [teart] my ACL [Anterior Cruciate Ligament] two years ago.

“Hopefully I get an opportunity to stay here (West Brom) and go up.

“That’s the ideal plan, but if not, then I just want to enjoy playing regular football, it’s especially tough when you’re not playing.”

Holgate could have the last laugh in Everton transfer decision

With Holgate being out of favour at Goodison Park and with the defender performing in the Championship, all signs point to a permanent move to the Baggies.

The saga with the Toffees and the defender has been going on for a while now, with Holgate told to leave Everton in 2023 as well as the summer just gone.

However, with West Brom’s form in the Championship and Everton’s dismal time in the Premier League this season, Holgate may find himself in a better position next campaign.

Although David Moyes’ appointment has brought hope of safety, there is still every chance the defender becomes a Premier League footballer once again, and Everton a Championship club for the first time.

Could Holgate have the last laugh in what looks like a transfer decision firmly put to bed.
