Everton’s season has been one ravaged by injuries from before the campaign even began.

Sean Dyche has been forced to contend with key absences in vital areas, and thus forced many within his squad to play out of position, with varying success.

But, in such times of crisis, needs must.

It seems that such desperation has even forced him to convince a few of his stars to even keep on playing through some of these ailments.

Michael Keane makes shocking Everton injury revelation

Speaking to the Liverpool ECHO after his match-winning display, not only helping his side snag a second straight clean sheet but also firing home their second goal too, Michael Keane made a pretty stark revelation.

He has been playing through the pain barrier.

At Leicester City especially, he claimed that he was forced to simply ‘get through it’ for the betterment of the team.

And, he also revealed that he is not alone in this regard, noting: ‘I had a bad leg against Leicester but it was alright and I’ve always been the kind of person who wants to play and help the team in any way I can. It was fine.

‘A lot of lads play with injuries and get through it. It’s just one of those things.’

This commitment to the cause must be lauded, and it explains what the Everton fans were changing at Keane at full-time on Saturday.

Sean Dyche left with questions to answer

It feels like, after this Keane revelation, the Everton manager has been left with a few questions to answer.

After all, given how keen Dyche has been to ensure that Jarrad Branthwaite and Nathan Patterson are not rushed back, it seems his rules differ player by player.

Naturally, the extent of some injuries requires additional care, but the fact that the former was deemed fit enough for the Crystal Palace game, only to rule him back out, only adds to scrutiny.

If Keane and James Tarkowski have been playing through the pain barrier, whilst Jake O’Brien has sat on the bench unscathed, it is worth questioning why the Republic of Ireland international was even purchased in the first place.

Dyche has performed admirably this season and beyond, and worked wonders in the past when managing injuries.

His conduct this season has left a few scratching their heads though.
